On Monday, September 16th, the students of St. Francis Community School watched a video based on the picture book, The Dot by Peter Reynolds. The story explores how the main character, Vashti, took a risk and made her mark and discovered how everyone has a hidden talent or ability... They just need to take a risk and take that first step. The students were then asked to think about, "How will they make their mark this year?" Hmmmm????
For the past week, the students of St. Francis have been discussing, brainstorming, sharing, exploring, examining, collaborating, reflecting, painting, colouring their "Dot Masterpieces". These masterpieces all reflect a different interpretation on how students explored their potential and had fun sharing their own interpretation from the story, The Dot.
The following are photos of student masterpieces and how we celebrated "MAKING OUR MARK" at St. Francis Community School. It is interesting to see so many interpretations of the project. All teachers had a different way they chose to encourage students make the story come alive for them. Over the course of the week, it became evident that this project was a great way to kick off our school year, unifying both students and teachers alike, as all reflected on what it means to make your mark and see where it takes you.
